Ready Set Hatch! Set 3/17 Hatch 4/7 - ready now! Hatch-Along

I know what you mean. This year I am adding blue and terra cotta eggs to my basket! I get several shades of medium brown, two shades of green, and some pretty cream colored eggs right now :)

What lays terra cotta eggs? My goal this year was to add more colors too but it didn't pan out so well. Any thoughts on what might lay a light cream to white egg and is cold hardy? Leghorns are not an option here in the north IMHO. I was shooting for the coronation sussex but when I got the eggs, they were no lighter than the eggs I was getting from my hens already... that and only one hatched anyway. Still... I'm hoping my BO/EE mixes will put out some interesting colors but not counting on it. I do have the marans though so it wasn't all fruitless.

Faverolles lay cream color to pale tan eggs! Extremely cold hardy too. I don't have any, but welsummers are supposed to lay terra cottage I think.

Out of 11 eggs 10 hatched. But yesterday we had monsoon rains here in Louisiana and it got a little chilly. When I got home in the evening I had 2 babies that didn't get out of the nest with the hen and other chicks. They were both as cold as a stone and laid out. Unfortunately one perished but I manage to bring one back from the brink by sitting in front of an electric heater with it. (I thought I was going to have a heat stroke!) It was a hard decision to put the tiny guy back under the hen but today it is doing good. Congrads everyone on your hatches and all the chicks are beautiful.

There are 9 all together but I can't manage to get them all.
Congrats!

Interesting. I actually have a barred rock that lays an egg that's almost white but she's not a good layer and I would never breed her to try to perpetuate the color.

Yep, good quality Welsummers lay terra cotta eggs.

My Swedish Flower Hen lays white, to cream, to cream with pink spots depending on the day! I want to get more of them but won't have more room in the bator :D

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only person that has about 60 standard size chickens LOL. Now I don't feel like I'm a chicken hoarder. I tell my spouse that I'm a COLLECTOR not a HOARDER. And I have 23 bantys not counting new chicks. I collect 40-45 eggs a day from my standard chickens and I give them away to anyone I know who wants them. I especially like to give them to people with children because they are a good healthy food with lots of protein.
