i can tell whats going on.

I hope yours are still all doing well. I'm really anxious to candle ours again this weekend. Hoping to see them grown to mostly fill the eggs. On day ten we watched my DD's silkie press it's little feet against the shell - there was no doubt it was two little chicken feet wiggling around! So cute.

I wish I had a separate incubator for hatching. I have several Jersey Giant eggs that apparently take 22 days to hatch. I'm going to be pushing back lockdown until I have internal pipping going on, just to be sure the JGs have a better chance.

My eggs are brown and hard to candle sometimes. I will be candling today again maybe.... So I don't really know how many are viable. I wish they were white! NO much easier to see!

8 of mine are dark brown - very hard to see compared to the lighter brown and green ones. I found a 200 lumens rated flashlight that works well, but I still have 1 black tailed buff marans that's just sooooo hard to see.
Hokankai - didn't realize Jersey's took longer. I learn so much from this site.

Coming in late in the game but I put in a dozen assortments of eggs from my 6 ladies that have been recently separated from their man. Built a home made incubator and it holds temp pretty well. If all is well, estimated hatch day is april 8th. I put them in the bator on the 18th around 2 pm. I candled the eggs on day 7 and had 1 early death and 2 yolkers so now I am down to nine. So exciting! The babies were moving sooo much!

welcome to our hatch-a-long! Glad you can join us.

LATE UPDATE: ok so I just candled again on tuesday, and apparently I had mis-counted I have a total of 23 eggs haha. Which means I had a total of 27 eggs set to hatch April 8th. I had already tossed 2 to begin with on day 7. Then when I candled again to place back in the turner ( had other eggs in lock down prior to being set.) I had to toss 2 more. With a total of 2 D'uccle eggs and 2 game eggs tossed. Candling is in 4 days again hopefully none have to be tossed. Also bout to set 6 duck eggs and one B R turkey egg. So eggsited!! *Flails!*

I candled again tonight because we are going out of town until Monday and I haven't pulled anything since I was new to candling. I am going to pull the ones I am certain aren't good tonight. The four I have left were swimming like they were in the Olympics! No trouble telling which ones are good now... I did have one that may have had some movement so I am going to keep it for now.
