Sounds great! Your plan is coming together, do yourself a favor and pass on the shrews......

I knew that it was not the right way to spell it, so I just asked someone how to spell it.

Maybe I can give you guinea eggs in the spring, and you can just stick them under a broody, and tell your DH when they hatch out, that they are stripe chickens.

Well, I have had a busy week, I had went to Crossroad show, and had a great time there, took lots of pictures, and met other BYC members.

Wyentte had needed to sell her Tomaru Longcrowers to make room for her other breeds, and asked me if I can buy them from her, for I had asked eggs from them before. I said yes as long they are disease free, she said as far she knows they are clean. She was going to Crossroad too, so I asked her if she can bring the Tomaru Longcrowers with her, and I can take them home. So, that is how it went. Here are the pictures of the trio-

I had brought a pair of muscovys at Crossroad too, a female from JimFarmStand, and a male from Saladin. Here is the male-

I am almost halfway done with the new coop.

My sister had helped me with the roof, but I did the whole thing 80 percent by myself.

I will cover the walls with leftover greenhouse plastic for protection from the wind in the winter, and will take it off in the spring.

BTW I have not spend one penny on this coop, except the chicken wire. All of the stuff came from the backyard.

that looks great and I want to thank you again for your story. I would not have know that I should not trade and mix and match birds. I have a friend who would trad some with me but they were just given to her so I think I will pass and just wait for eggs from mine...THANK YOU AGAIN

Thank you so much for sharing this, alot of new chicken owners will get a wealth of information from reading your post! I used to just buy birds from wherever and put them in with my flock. I would leave them in a dog crate for the day and stick them on the roost with my other birds at night. Knock-on-wood, to this very day, I've never had any issues. This past spring though, I got my first Cochins. 17 beautiful, big fluffy birds that I've grown so very attactched to. I can't imagine loosing even one of them. So for the first time ever, I set up a quarantine hutch. And the last time I brought new birds in I used it. Why did I start this practice? Well, my friend, it was because I read posts like yours on BYC. Reading those posts, and feeling the heartbreak of the chicken owners that had to cull their precious birds opened my eyes. I'll conclude by saying thank you again, for myself, and anyone else who will read you post and learn from your mistake. Good luck rebuilding your farm. I'm looking forward to a post from you filled with joy and chickens when you are finished.
By the way, your new coop is fabulous! And those longcrowers are amazing!
