I am so sorry about the loss of your Polish. As mentioned previously, these swap meets aren't always the best place to acquire birds. Its sad how some birds are kept. I know how heart breaking it is.

But, we are so glad you decided to join us! So pull up a roost bar and join in the chicken chat!

Welcome to BYC. As others have suggested, be very careful when adding to your flock, and always quarantine new birds. One good way of building your flock would be buying fertile eggs when your hens go broody. Of course then you would have to deal with 50 % cockerels.
