Hey everyone, thanks to Eric Letendre the amazing dog training man on youtube I have found something wonderful for leash training! I wanted to share with all my BYC friends! It's called the gentle leader it's wonderful, it works a lot like a halter on a pony. It doesn't hurt the dog ever. It even comes with a free training dvd! Mine cost $16 at Petsmart. If you hate leash pulling as much as I do you will love it!

I have this for my Boxer/Lab cross and it is great! She does not like it much at first but it saves my arm!

A must have for pulling dogs that just get too excited on a walk!

Alot of people I know use those. They are great indeed. I actually lost mine yesterday

I am bummed. I sure get alot of people ask if my dog bites because of it. I always say no it isn't a muzzle lol.

We have this and it's great. Now I know why at a parade someone asked what kind of dog we had. I told her and she said oh that's why. I was wondering WHY WHAT??? I guess she thought our gentle leader was a muzzle? These are well worth the money.

We have used them, but were not impressed and they actually made the pulling worse because our dog hated the feeling of it. We use a rubber leash that stretches just enough.

It all boils down to TRAINING the dog to heel, not pulling your arm off!

I do not like to walk dogs or put it this way, dogs walking ME because it is harder to control if the dog decided to lurch after a cat or something and you would get hurt.

Harness or halters, makes no difference to me what you use but it is all in the training!

Pretty much exactly. Our Labrador Retriever did more damage with the halti than she did without. Our Mini Labradoodle however does not pull because we trained him not to ...that and last time he tried he pinged back on the rubber leash LOL

We use the Halti...similar idea to the gentle leader. My Aussie never pulled anyway...but it really helped with our Labrador. Training is important yes, but in order to get to that point, you need to be able to get the dog's attention when you are working with him. A Halti is a good way to do that.

The gentle leader was the best $12 I ever spent. My dog no longer pulls and even if he does (aka squirrel) I can hold all 70 lbs of him back with one finger. It is so much easier to control a large dog by the head compared to the neck....no one would ever lead a horse around by the neck, it is a very similar concept.

The gentle leader does not work for every dog, but it is certainly worth a try if you have a dog that tries to pull your arm out of your socket. The gentle leader helped my dog keep his attention on me and not of the environment- so it was a great training tool in getting him to walk next to me.

My dog is trained to heel, she is just so excited to get places she pulls the leash. It is only a problem when we get going at first, not when we are on the way home. I have tried everything else and it makes no difference, she will continue to pull on leashes until she chokes herself.
