Red area below vent

A very common cause of swollen abdomen is fat accumulation. If left to develop over time, it can result in fatty liver disease and other complications leading to death.

I suggest you examine the diet of these hens and determine if they may be overindulging in carbs in the form of too many treats. The treatment is to cut out all carbs except for what's present in their commercial feed.
My girl gets All Flock feed and occasionally protein treats for the molting. And yogurt every so often but not even weekly. Now would mating do this? I ask because she is in a pen with my SF roo but none of the other two ladies in the same coop have a red bum area. Any info is appreciated.

No, mating only involves a slight contact between the cloaca of the rooster with the cloaca of the hen. He has a hard enough time managing this, let alone any friction of skin to skin contact.

Pecking can cause red skin. Any sign of that going on?

No, none. I can also try to snap a pic tonight, its just so odd because she acts so, well, normal. Nothing seems to be causing any discomfort, and she has had this for at least a few weeks now. I just thought it was molting/mating delaying feather growth there.

I don't see any pecking behaviors toward this one, since she is at the top. And, just like the other posters, she is very normal. This is my first year with a flock that is old enough to molt, so I initially through it was just that.

Best I could get holding both her and the phone. Its warm but she also could have been laying on it too. Her weight feels good, keel is not protruding. She seems otherwise healthy.

Anyone have any other ideas as to what these red areas possibly mean??
I have seen this red skin, both on butts and backs, off and on for 6 years.
It can come and go day by day, or last a while(weeks to months) then it's gone.
Never really figured out what causes or cures it.

As long as birds are otherwise healthy,
eating/drinking/pooping/moving around OK,
I'd not worry too much about it.

Wow, that is actually rather interesting, and odd. I'm guessing feathers regrew in said spots? Thanks, feel a bit better over it now.
