Red butt rooster

Had to remove Mr. Big's spurs today.

While holding him upside down, Doctor Dolittle and I saw he had a bloody red butt. We never see anyone peck at him. Is there anything else that could cause this?

I finally caught one hen sticking her head where it does not belong.

Here is what I have done to address the problem:
1. Sprayed the roost to kill possible mites.
2. Changed food to make sure they have enough protein.
3. Isolated the suspicious hen.

Time will tell....

If they are attracted to pecking at the red blood you could also spray some blue kote on his butt. (from farm store)
