My chicken free range in the afternoon mon-Fri and all day on the weekend. I had 2 chicks that went missing about a week ago. Well at 11:00 this morning the dog's ran a red fox out of the yard. I went out with the gun and it came back with me sanding in the yard. I shot at it. I'm not sure if I hit it but it did roll jumped up and ran. Will it come back if I didn't hit it? Or do you think it will stay away after being shot at? I used a 12 gauge with buck shot. Didn't see any blood so I'm not sure if I killed it.

It took three shots from me and two from the neighbor to finally run off a pair of foxes we had around this spring. Even if it doesn't come back or even if you did hit it there could be more around so you may want to keep your flock on lock down. Good luck! I HATE fox!

When I once shot a fox they screamed and ran in circles. Limped into the gully- doubt it lived. You probably hit it and by now it's probably dead. Where did ya hit it?

If you are worried you didn't... Aim for the head. ;)

I had something eating birds, and they were on lockdown until one night a week or two ago when I came into the coop and saw an opossum running around on the floor. He is gone now. We lost no hens or eggs in the attack.

Thanks for the reply every one. My husband said I probably got it. Sure hope so. I had one back in May that got a few rosters. This one today was a small one. So I think it's one of the babies of the one I seen in may. Never got a shot at it so I'm sure it's still around.
