red heat bulb or clear heat bulb

I agree with Seminolewind. I love the red bulb.

I changed to a red bulb about an hour after getting my last set of chicks. They were stressed from shipping and eye-picking, not eating, etc.. I switched to the red bulb and they calmed down, stopped picking and started eating. It was seriously amazing.

I now use the red bulb 24/7 for heat and a flourescent "swirly" bulb for daylight, between 6am and 6pm. They seem to love it.

My brooder is 2x2x3 feet, it's inside the house and I use a 100w Red Glass Reptile bulb. The dark red glass seems to work better than the "party bulb" spray coated bulbs.

I bought the bulb on ebay for about $6.

If I wasn't so cheap, I think the ceramic heat emitter bulb would be the way to go, but I believe you would still need a night light bulb so the chicks could see their way to the food and water at night.
