Coming along very well, I am to the point where I need to be now to get these last 3 hatches grown for parent breeding stock, and that should allow me to start letting some of my close friends have a few and kick this thing into high gear.

Well like I said last year I wanted to start hatching early this year, with a little work and a few major feeding changes things have worked out so I am now starting to put some numbers on the ground, 4 decent hatches so far, with more planned all summer long. Those were my only dark's I hatched 3 to be exact, so I will keep them and maybe look for a show grade Rooster to put with them.
I am most excited to have put down some good Standard Whites this year and will continue to work very closely with them till I am satisfied with the numbers to breed next year.

I can say it has been a challenge but rewarding on both front's, my Pure Cornish show birds and my meat bird project. I am happy to finally see the fruits of my labor chirping about.

I have three pens for my meat bird project, one with a predominence of CX, one weighted with "Red Cornish", and one that is more White Rock, I'll be crossing the offspring of these next year. BUT the hens are laying like gangbusters and I thought I might share some of my work with others trying to do the same thing . . . who knows it could save someone a few years lol!
I think I'm going to offer out of just one pen at a time, probably start with my CX BCM pen . . . watcha think???

You are going about it the same way i did, it made more sense to me to do it that way to judge progress and figure out better which matings were working well, and to allow for a better way to plan the next set's of pairings. It also helped me better gauge feed use, growth rates, address any fertility issues and do some processing and comparing those side by side. I think you have already figured out it's the way to go on a project of this scope.

Hi Katy,
Can you post pictures of your CX BCM?
Why did you choose BCM? I assume the offspring are dark feathered?
Joe

I'm not a Katy, but can tell you that her BCM/CX are pictured earlier either on this this thread or on another...................... they're quite large and meaty. Since CX are dominate white, crosses off them are predominently white with sometimes red or black bleeding through............................. but the colors and patterns will resurface in a percentage of chicks in later generations.
