To my eyes he appears closer to Cornish in type, inspite of the loose feathering.

Well I have been asking for it, and I finally got it. My little half cornish cockerel, 5 months old, came at me this morning. Right now he's hiding like a baby, petrified of me. When he comes out of it, we'll see if I'll need to get Al to give me a few pointers. I miss seeing him post. Seriously though if he keeps up I'll just eat him. He looks pretty darn tasty anyhow.

Should I breed first generation cross back to pure DC or cross first generation and breed offspring back to pure DC? I want to improve size first and then color or both.

Ok, let me start by saying that I just spent the last couple days reading through all 215 pages of this thread. When it was first started, almost 2 years ago, I didn't think it was going to go too far and I was a bit irritated at the time that I couldn't find much information on LF Cornish and their crossings. So, I ignored it, and it grew... massive, thanks to the efforts of the many involved (Steve and Al are so awesome)

In those two years I have been working on my own cornish project over here in the great Pacific Northwest where NO ONE knows anything about LF Cornish, it's all boutique banties in their $500 city coops or Cornish X and Production Reds in the hills. Because 2 years ago I couldn't find a way to acquire some decent cornish stock I went ahead and went with Cackle hatchery dark cornish, supposedly the best hatchery option and have been crossing them over hatchery barred rocks. Now, I knew from the very beginning that this wasn't the best option but the results have been better than expected. My culls have all been in the 5-10lb range with nice breast development but man is their grow out slow.

Well, with this spring also comes a brand new Dickey incubator and a resolve to get my hands on some REAL meaty Rock and Cornish. Color is of no importance to me, I would prefer pure so I can do the work without too many unexpected throws, Dark Cornish and Barred Rock seem to be the easiest to acquire of good stock but I don't know where to start. I've read all the stories of "breeder stock,".... which breeder? McMurry.... 2nd 3rd generation hatchery stock being called breeder stock... you know the deal. So, I come here to ask all involved, who do YOU trust that would be willing to ship me some eggs over here in the far flung corner. I'm in the PNW too, and thought I'd found some good "breeder" stock only to find it came from a hatchery. Having said that, I'm very happy with 2 of them (out of 6) so I'm going to try working with those. I have just set 3 eggs from one, and am eagerly waiting results.

Hey everybody. Was up to Dad's last weekend, helping him sort the young stock, deciding on this years breeding pens.

Anyway I thought I would see if there might be any interest in some of the extras here before I float an auction. There are 2 white cockerels, and 2 pullets that came out of blue project chicks.

The biggest cockerel was getting bested by some of the pure Cornish in the cockerel pen, and looks a little dirty, and rough feathered, has small feather stubs on it's legs, but is a big bird and should do well away from the others. Would be the back two in first photo.


And the pullets on the left with orange bands.
