New chicken keeper here. My little Silkie splash hen had some red stringy stuff in her poop today. Picture attached. Should I be worried?

Some more info on my girl: I got her back in October. She is supposedly a little over a year old. She just started laying eggs for me in November. I’ve noticed this week she is acting differently. I think she might be broody. She wants to stay in coop and just nest, even at night while everyone else is on the roost. She’s not laying on eggs currently but she still wants to sit all day and night on the nest she made under the roost. I tried moving her, but I can’t get her to lay in a nesting box. She keeps going back to under the roost and gets pooped on.

Hopefully she’s just broody and not sick, but the red stringy stuff in her poop has me worried.

Thank you for your help and time.

I don’t see a picture in your post, but a picture would be helpful. Orangey red stringy mucus can be normal on occasion, but if you see it more, or she seems weak or lethargic, you could consider treating her for worms with Valbazen or SafeGuard, and coccidiosis with Corid. You could break her from being broody in a dog crate with food and water, and with no bedding for about 5 days.

Thank you so much for the reply! I didn’t realize the picture didn’t come through. I really appreciate the recommendation. I just started them on Corrid today. Can I use a dewormer at the same time?
