A few weeks ago one of my little chicks would open and close her mouth while snuggling in my hand, she wasn't gasping necessarily just open and closing and only when she had her eyes closed and was still. She was eating and drinking and pooping all fine, so I treated for cocci with corid and we're now on day 5 of electrolytes and probiotics, but just yesterday her eyes became red (where the white is) and look sunken (droopy) and watery. She is rubbing them on her wing periodically so I'm sure it is irritated. I'm not sure if their is something respiratory I can treat for and do I just treat her only?!
She is one of my favorite girls and I don't want to see her sick :( she is about 3 weeks old
Any advice?!

Do you have saline eye drops? (Liquid tears) Flush her eyes with that. Be very generous and really irrigate both eyes. Then take a tiny dab of antibiotic ointment and wipe it at the corner of her eye so when the nictitating membrane closes, it will spread the ointment over the eye ball.

If she's suffering from simple eye irritation, that should cure it. If you see no improvement, then assume she has a respiratory infection and start her on an antibiotic.

I would agree that mycoplasma (MG) conjunctivitis may be a possibility. It causes the pinkeye, and watery or foamy eyes. Injectable Tylan 50, a cattle antibiotic, can be used orally in chicks 3 times a day for up to 5 days. Dosage for a chick would be 1/4 ml. Terramycin antibiotic eye ointment from your feed store may help, or use saline to clean eyes.

Thank you!
