Redcap Farm...
I enjoyed the video... especially the sound effects... makes you smile.

I was looking back at earlier posts and the pictures of your "culls". I assume one of them will be in your second breeding pen, next year? How are they coming? That might be a tough choice.

My "lame" hen is limping and roosting... I have no clue how she was injured but she seems to be mending. She hardly moved for a couple of weeks, so this is progress. My flock is small enough without losing her.

Hi Flitter

Sorry for not getting back to you I just noticed it in your post

. I have the best male in the breeding pen with the females and I had the second best male in another breeding pen ( has a outside run with no covered top

) that I thought he would be safe in. A couple of days after being in the pen a hawk got him

. I am hoping next spring I can get some eggs from you and get a male for my second breeding pen

. I learned my lesson this year and by next year the second breeding pen will have a outside run with a covered top!

I'm so sorry that you lost your second guy! What a shame. It makes you feel a little vulnerable... if anything happens to the only rooster.

I've been feeling that way this summer with mine. The hens are molting now... no eggs to hatch. I won't forget... you'll have eggs from my flock in the spring... always assuming nothing awful happens... I'm down to 2 hens and the rooster... as I said... vulnerable.
