RedLamp

Wow, what a small world. I honestly don't miss Hudson. I only went back a few times for either funerals or looking for something.

Ok my chicks are over a month old now. I'm thinking it's time to stop using the red lamp. Cause most of the time they are trying to avoid it. They have their feathers nicely and they fly really good. Plus since I put a different feeder in there, I know they are actually eating now. It's a gravity feeder, instead of the long metal one. Last night I went out to check on them and they were sleeping opposite end of where the red lamp was. They were not near it.

From early June I have only been using the heat during the evenings till mornings then only for the first week and then a 5 w bulb for lighting only as here anyway it is plenty warm enough ......

I like to keep the lamp in the corner and they will go to it when they need it. When they stop gravitating toward it after week 5, they are probably good to go. They should have a nice set of feathers by then.

Actually we stopped giving them the light a few days ago and they are doing great. They all huddle near the door together and sleep. I wait til it's warm out before I open the door for them to get sunlight and fresh air. They are really getting big. Tomorrow they will be 5 weeks old. So that's pretty good. Plus yesterday I gave them some fresh cut grass which at first they avoided, but then they just ate it and loved it.

I stopped using the red heat lamp just a few days ago. My chicks are almost 5 weeks and are outside during the day now and loving it. They're in the house at night with an oil filled radiator near them.
