About the top tarp in the rain - (craziest rig I'd ever see, and it worked like a champ) - create a low spot in the tarp for the rain to collect, or even make a hole. Run a medium to large piece of rope from the low spot to a bucket or wherever you want the water to run to.

The water from the rain will follow the rope, instead of building up in the tarp until it breaks. It's technically leakage, but it's controlled leakage!

And your salvage coop looks great! Except that you need more chickens...... hens need company!

Awesome job!! I love recycling. I love to see how people can build or make things using little or no money. I'm frugal and I recycle before I spend any money.

I LOVE your creativity and how the coop turned out. But that picture of one of your chickens with the dog...that needs to be used somewhere for a caption contest!

We used leftover panels from the shed we built last summer for our chicken coop, but had to go buy one additional sheet for the front, since none of the scraps were big enough. Even with the recycled materials and stuff we had laying around, it still cost a little over $200 but the coop is highly visible from the road, so we wanted it to look fairly decent and match the shed.

It came out pretty nice, I guess.

I love making do with materials on hand. If you can make something work with little to no money I think you're ahead of the game. I built an 8x10 coop with 90% of the materials on hand. I only had to buy roofing and a few sheets of plywood and of course the wire (most expensive item) for the run but for what I have you couldn't get for under $1000 bucks if it was built for you and I don't have more than $150 invested.

and we are continuing to add on the same way, I think you can see the trash fencing in the background....

I really like the dog kennel ideas for the runs!! These would be great dane proof if Tesla actually made into the garden area. We have to keep the garden fenced off or else the bassets will eat everything

So far only one incident of getting into the garden in 2 years.

I decided against closing in the laying 'boxes', it's just too hot here most of the year. So instead I'll be disassembling an old pump crate/pallet (seen in the background against the house) and using the side panels for 'walls'. They are about as airy as the fence panels and will be attached with hinges for opening on the super hot days. The back panel is already the floor of the roost/coop with just enough room for the hens to step across but I will be adding on to it for more room once the base of that pallet dries out a bit more.
