Regarding The New Classifieds / BSA / BST / Buy Sell Trade System

The consensus so far.... not happy about the new auction system that lacks the proxy bidding. Rob, how about acquiring a separate auction site?

When I listed auctions I listed them lower than what I normally sell the eggs for. This allowed the market to determine the price, like others have stated. I know other sellers list their eggs extremely low too. This allows the buyers, who may not normally be able to afford their dream eggs, the chance to bid and dream. In today's economy, that is important.

With the current system, if one wants to run it like an auction, when the auction is over, the buyer needs to close it. I have read administrator's/moderators state, when you are ready, reopen it. Well, when it is reopened, the buyers need to go through all of the previous posts to see what the current bid is. I am also a buyer, and I know I won't do that.

The previous auction site allowed people to dream, and on occasion, get eggs they never would have been able to get before.

In several threads, people have posted that they prefer to not buy eggs on ebay because they have been taken advantage of. Here, we have a community that is built on trust.

Nifty, I appreciate all of the work you put into BYC and the new platform. If you are interested, I know of somebody that has an auction site like we had, in the Hosta world. I could pass his information on to you if you were interested. Maybe something through him would work with this platform. I hate to pm you his info because I am sure you are swamped with pm's right now. Let me know if you are interested.
Thanks for your time,
Jim

I very much appreciate the comments made by the previous posters and hope there is some consideration given to setting up an auction site that is linked to BYC and operates similar to the old system. I too have built up a wonderful group of customers here on BYC - they know me, I know them, and most transactions were taking place among people who knew and trusted each other. There is just no other site on the web that even comes close to the high quality auctions we were able to create and view on BYC. Many of my customers came from the old eggbid site which was THE place to be for egg and bird auctions until it was sadly abandoned by the site's owners. Many sites have tried to copy eggbid and failed miserably imho. Following the demise of eggbid, BYC was the ONLY site that allowed sellers to put their creative abilities to work in producing a visually pleasing auction. It seems so clear to me that this is why the BYC auction community was growing so exponentially while the other auction sites are like ghost towns. The current buy/sell has a set up similar to some of the other poultry auction sites with small, hard to see pictures and crucially, lacking the ability to use proxy bidding. Obviously, you've just been through a huge site conversion and there is much to do, but I'm hoping this will be given some consideration before the BYC auction fans lose interest and go away.

After the demise of Eggbid.com BYC picked up the huge slack and provided a platform for the same proxy bidding that was sorely needed. It was something that I appreciated as did many other sellers and buyers.

I am completely satisfied with the new BYC platform, even with all the expected bugs....with the exception of the auction forum. It became a very necessary outlet for bird and egg sales for our farm and as mentioned above, we will have to find another site that supports the proxy bidding. There are just too many variables that make this auction format necessary.

It is concerning that many GFM and PFM's will not renew as this was one of the main reasons for their memberships.

I liked the way the bidding was before for the auctions as well as the buy it now. Maybe because I was used to it but I also like the no expiration so when I have eggs for sale I can just put up a list of shipment dates much like CJ does and have a set price. A person can always put a auction ending date in their listing. Although it has no expiration they can close it themselves when their auciton is over or set another date for the next auction. The bidders can post a rely with their bid and send any other communication thru PM. Sellers can still have several different breeds for auction in the same listing because the bidders can just state what they're bidding on and their price. It will all take some getting used to.
I do like being able to get pictures off my computer instead of having to upload them then copy and paste.
My complaint is it's so slow for me to navagate around. I have dial up and i'm sure i'm not the only one here that does. So it's even slower than it was before. I will be getting satalite internet in the next few months but some live in areas where that isn't an option either. So maybe a way to change options so not so many things will show. Like for instance I'm clicking on a thread in the forum, only the postings in the forum show instead of all the other stuff along the side. It takes longer for all that stuff to load than it does the text does.

So, you like to put all breeds in one post? What would the subject line say? "Multiple auction here?" Then, one would have to click on it to read what all is available, right? How many clicks and how long would it take you to load each page? You said on dial up that is very slow. Imagine doing that over and over for several different auctions that might be the one you are interested in.

I too am happy with the new BYC site and have no problems with it except the Auction Forum. I like the way the auction was set up on the old forum. I do not like this auction set up at all. I realize it is new and needs to be worked on. But I also read somewhere that it could be a very long time. Like someone else said, I sold a lot on Eggbid.com until they went under and made most of my income there. Then I found this site and made some money still not as much as the old site but now you guys changed your auction format and so far have ran most of the users away with it. I think the main problem is the auctions. Other than that I think everyone is pretty much happy.

I see what you mean. I obviously didn't think that one thru. I know when i'm looking for a certain breed it would be a pain in the tail feathers to have to go thru all that. I would just pass it up, so I see what your saying.

I don't want to use ebay to sell eggs, so that and the weather my egg sales have came to a stop. But I did sell my last 2 baches of eggs in just a few days with this new auction thread. Although it won't work that well all the time and everybody did like it better the other way. We all want to get the most we can from our eggs and to do that we need the auction to work like it did before. If somebody has a buy it now at a set price it will work but like what was mentioned before, those with several different breeds it would be a pain in the tail feathers.
If ya'all can get it going like the old one was everybody would be happy again with it.
