Reliving the KIDS issue

As far as no jobs available in this economy - what about a couple of years ago? There were plenty of jobs then. This economy thing is a cop-out for many. I can probably find a couple of jobs right now if I wanted to. It's really all about attitude and a willingness to work, IMHO. Good luck to you - I hope you can at least get her to start cleaning and participating in the household. I fail to see how these young women today will ever find a decent, hardworking husband if they don't know how to cook, clean, etc. (Yes, I'm old-fashioned that way)

my son is with us but a job is a must.. he is 30 and working two low paying jobs and i charge him rent. he is required to stack the wood.. mow 3 acres of lawn. and lots of other things besides his 68 hours a week work.. he wants to be at home so he goes by the rules..it helps us out with bills and it helps him save money to pay off his student loans and car payments. if she isn't working then it is time to find a friend to live with.. believe me they won't put up with her living free for long. gl and put your foot down.

You are not doing her any favors by allowing her to continue acting like a child.

Yup. And the answer is the same whether she is a step kid, bio kid, foster kid, etc...

I have a friend currently getting sucked dry by her adult children. Mine knew darn well if he wanted to stay at home after age 18 it would be because he was in school full time or he would be paying rent. He tried college and that didn't work out. He moved out on his own and paid his own way, got tired of low wages and stupid room mates so he joined the army. He is about to go to Iraq and be all he can be

The only help we gave him is letting his be on our cell plan though he paid his own bill from the time he was 16. Same with his car insurance. He was on our plan but paid his portion. Now we are helping him by keeping his cats until he gets back from the sand box.

Allowing kids to mooch is not helping them OR you.​

My mom's deal was that we move out or pay rent. Didn't matter if we had a job or went to school, we had to pay rent.

It took my sister a while to find her feet, but she does better than I do (I teach, she nurses....she wins the paycheck game, but I have more chickens).

I will repeat this for the sake of everyone not having to read the whole thing:

She gets no money
She gets no nice food
She gets no rides anywhere
She is expected to clean the ENTIRE house
She has to do her own laundry
We lock up snacks in our room
She gets yelled at BIG TIME by her dad when she DOESN'T clean

In fact tonight, he made her go outside and clean up ALL the horse poop.

Apparently he really did a number on her because she is calling me ma'am. We didn;t have much of a chance to talk tonight because I got home late and he retires early. But the kitchen was clean and it was clear the vacuum was used.

I had a chance to talk to Ken this morning. She left, and I have no idea if she is gonna go to her classes, but Kenny is wanting to move back home now. So we are moving her stuff to the storage shed, moving my son into the small bedroom (he is gone 3 days a week) and putting Kenny and his fiance in the other room. They are both in school too.

Ken said when Sara decides she wants to come do her laundry and crash she can sleep on the couch.
