'Remember when' or 'these kids today' nostalgia thread for old fogies like me

We heat are house entirely through our wood furnace. Even though in VA the winters aren't to cold our house is rather large so we have our work cut out for us in the summer/fall preparing for the winter.

Maybe it was used to grab a ember out of the fireplace to light a pipe?

Looks like a barbecue fork. What you'd stick a sausage or piece of bread on and hold it in the fire to cook it/toast it. Or maybe a marshmallow? Don't they always toast marshmallows in american movies when they are out camping? (before the psycho pops out of the woods and slaughters everybody )

Where in VA are you? We are near Chatham.

my first cell phone was a wired bag phone. got it when my son was born, i think, in case i went into labor. His 26th birthday is in 2 weeks!

True, they usually had a wooden handle. You'd need an oven mitt.

my first cell phone was a wired bag phone. got it when my son was born, i think, in case i went into labor. His 26th birthday is in 2 weeks!

We had a guy show up to work one day with one of those. I think at the time a payphone was 10 cents and he said that costs $1 per minute to use.
We all thought he was crazy to pay that and what was the point there were pay phones everywhere.
Guess we weren't visionaries.

Yeah.... my kids (except for the one over 18) don't have cell phones.

The often have to beg to borrow a phone... public phones are almost unheard of now.

I was getting groceries today and asked the lady where i could find a mailbox to mail my letter. She says, you mean the post office? Yeah, or a MAIL BOX!?! What, people do not know what a mail box is any more?
