'Remember when' or 'these kids today' nostalgia thread for old fogies like me

Yikes, how embarrassing! What did you do to deserve such a punishment?

I thought it was awesome to get to eat lunch in peace.

I have no idea why... but every school I went to (and there were several) between 2nd grade and 8th.... I was either beat up, or picked on...or something bad.

I just looked up how far it was from my school to the bus stop and it's about a mile. Do you think that would be considered "too far" to make a kid of between 7 and 12 walk every day these days? Rural kids would definitely walk, but city kids today? I suspect they'd want a shuttle to pick them up at the door, but maybe I'm wrong about that.

I am pretty sure they would think that was too far.

I am pretty rural, and it looks like the bus stops at the indiviual driveways, or at the side streets that kids live on...each one.

I was thinking, oh well, if it's really cold, you can't have people walking about and getting snap frozen, but then I remembered that I used to walk to the bus-stop in the middle of summer. We used to get sent home from school when it got to 108F (we used to have imperial measurements before we switched to metric), but I had to walk to the bus-stop to get home.... It's a wonder I never got heatstroke, but then again, I was always wearing my hat and gloves (yes, GLOVES) as required for our school uniform when out in public, so my hat probably helped (not so much the gloves.... )

So your mom bringing your lunch was a good thing. I was thinking about my mother doing that and shivered! Oh the humanity

PC, your post reminded me of our dress codes. Girls were required to wear dresses or skirts (hems no higher than 2" above the knees). We couldn't wear slacks...slacks, no jeans ever...until the winter temps reached 10*.

Another school had to wear "regulation knickers" and petticoats. Luckily, we didn't have to endure that.
