Remembering Hawkeye...One Year Later (LONG)

What a sweet thing to have a memorial for him! He certainly was beautiful and was just as beautiful in personality! HE is the reason I started wanting a rooster to begin with! He was absolutely stunning and was one heck of a rooster for those girls! He is a fallen hero

I know how much you miss him, he was so very special!

The CDs are strung across for a hawk deterrent on the pens and for bird deterrent on the fruit trees. The chickens have had them since Day One, so they aren't bothered by them at all. The garlic was in the water for an immune system boost. Hawkeye was in the middle of quarantine then and was eating good food for the first time in his life. It was part of my "Rooster Renovation" program, LOL. Yes, I do worry about animals, but I haven't lost any to predators so far, mostly due to my wonderful roosters. Had a fox's den about 200 ft from my coops once and at the time, they were freeranging every day. I even found BR feathers at the mouth of the den, but thankfully, not my BRs'!
Thanks for not thinking I'm crazy!

Just had to post and let you know I was thinking of you.

I remember when this happened last year, and what a pretty boy he was. I think the BR are some of the prettiest roosters, and it's hard to believe he had such a rough start...you really found a diamond in the rough and brought out his shine.

Don't ever feel silly about grieving over something you loved. People are too judgmental. I guarantee my chickens are better behaved than most people's dogs and way more than most people's cats. Just because they don't have fur doesn't mean they don't deserve our love.

I'm glad you posted the memorial. We're all here to support you and remember Hawkeye. I am so glad that his sons are able to carry on his legacy.

Hawkeye's story is so touching - rescued from the swamp and transformed into ruler supreme over 10 beautiful hens - new loving owners - you and your DH were his miracle!!!

Your writing is so heartfelt and earnest - and your love of animals so clear - thanks for sharing your remembrance of Hawkeye.

And those pics of your DH in the hammock make me smile! Now THAT'S the life!!! *smile*

Wow, Cyn. I can't believe its been a year already. It seems just like yesterday. What a sad day for you, and all of us, who loved Hawkeye. You and HE is the reason I now have a small flock of BR. My Roo is...well...never going to be as pretty as Hawkeye I am sure...but, a close second.

) Around these parts, he is pretty famous. LOTS of people talk about, " that big beautifull BR Roo" I think we are to have sunshine today, I will try to get a few pics. He really IS a great boy, and I love him as well. RIP Hawkeye....your legend lives on!

wow I am in tears !!

I remember him so well like he was a part of my own family -- I cried with you the day he passed -- it is because of your Hawkeye that I feel in love with the BRs and when I finally got my own BR rooster I was head over heels in love with him named him Maverick and he was the best roo we have had.

I think I will now always have a BR roo because of your Hawkeye and when I can have chickens again you can bet that a BR will be the first rooster in my new flock !!

Hawkeye will never be forgotten by anyone who reads his story

you and he were meant to be together

Ah Cyn did not realized he passed on the 15th, that is one of my horses birthdays. Roos can be just amazing so many dont get to have them sadly.

They are so easy to love.

Awww Cynthia, I am so glad Hawkeye was a part of your lives and you all a part of his. I lost my big boy Comet last year and I still miss him, though John Henry, the new EE, is doing a fine job, too.
