Reminder that coyotes are in urban areas

We have two dogs . When they come around here they go right through the yard . I had two one day not even 50 feet from me and stood there and looked at me. Shot off a pistol twice and they didnt even move!!

Yeah, thanks April; I sure agree.......the reason we had to return the dog to the shelter was that it became our worst predator of all, no matter how carefully we kept him away from our hens...then he'd run away for a day, doing who-knows-what in neighbors' yards............

Yup yup. I live in Seattle, right up against the freeway. I was really surprised to see an injured coyote on our street one morning. I called animal control and they were pretty blase about it -- and told me that there are plenty of coyotes all over the city, including the downtown area.

Our neighbors had a chicken for a while, but just had it in a pen -- no coop -- and didn't realize that we have coyotes AND raccoons in our neighborhood. They don't have a chicken anymore.

We have two neighbor dogs on the other side of us, and I wonder if they prove to be some deterrent. A determined coyote could probably get into our run, but the coop is solid.

I have been up in the morning and saw a coyote go right down the street in front of our house. Talk about brazen!

I was riding my horse in the neighborhood one day... middle of the day, mind you... when a coyote came trotting up the middle of the street past me. It didn't even look at me.
They are used to the urban sprawl. Besides, there are lots of cats, small dogs and trashcans to raid if you can get over your fear of humans and cars!

We used to live in Sacramento, CA and I worked at the Sacramento Army Depot, right in the middle of the city and there were several coyotes living on the back of the base. They ate the rabbits that lived there and came into the backyards and ate the dog food people left out. These were city coyotes and they were really smart!
