Beautiful babies!!We have had many.
Don’t ever buy a frillie from a pet store (Australian frilled dragon).... he was poorly bred and we lost him way too early at 3
Ball pythons are fabulous, but ....our daughter who was battling anorexia really wanted one. So we found her one.
....they are super chill, and happy to hang on your shoulders while you are doing chores etc.
....but also tend to go on hunger strikes in the winter.
Highly recommended, but not for an anorexic teenager
She went with our daughter to college once she didn’t have to be in the dorms, and both are doing great. But it was a rough road for a while to say the least.
The one that we still have is a Brazilian Rainbow Boa. She is super cool, happy to eat F/T which I love.
She also helps take care of any losses we have from our rabbitry during kindling, or young chicks that we lose. Nothing goes to waste here.
I love the fact that she is big enough to be fun, but will never be big enough to need anything larger than a large rat.
She is very docile. We have had her since she was a baby.
But. She is also very busy, and you have to be ready to “actively” handle her or else she will try to leave lol
Wrap herself around the chair if you sit down
Take off if you are distracted.
However.... having the frillie... he had eyelids.
I know it sounds weird. But you could get a sense of his mood based on the shape of his eyes.
With the snake.... you only have a sense of her mood based on if she is coiled / thinking about being ready to strike.... or not.
I know we are doing a good job of taking care of her, but, I don’t think I’ll ever have another snake. I appreciate the clues that the lizards offer....
Maybe a Tegu one day. But I doubt it.
Having heritage turkeys has very much satisfied my desire to be a proper keeper of creatures that seem somewhat prehistoric![]()
Thank you!Beautiful babies!!and I loved reading the stories too. So sorry you lost the frillie and about the struggles with your daughter but glad to hear she’s doing better now!

That’s amazing and hilarious! HahahThank you!
My aunt came to visit when I was about 18mos old
She brought some pink Lacy dress for me and we were outside working in the garden
I came up to her w a big grin and something in my hands
Sooo she put her hand out and I dropped a baby Gardner snake in her hand
It’s been a lifelong affliction for me!
As a kid, I was kicked off of school busses, and kicked out of summer camps, for trying to smuggle Gardner snakes, alligator lizards, western fence lizards, and rubber boas (<- my all time favorite!!) in sweatshirt pockets and backpacks
I’m sure glad I’ve always lived in the PNW in that regard- no bad snakes here!
I can’t say I’m sorry that I passed the “problem” to all of my kidsand happy that my husband is tolerant

Thank you! Glad you’re enjoying it!I like this thread!
We keep and breed reptiles...corn snakes, ball pythons (27 snakes together) and leopard geckos. We also have two bearded dragons and a Vietnamese agama lizard.
We also breed lots of rodents and insects.
