I would never be able to get my own reptile as long as I live in my parent's house. But when I move out, I want to get a ball python (or royal python)!!! They're so cute... I love their big eyes and puppy faces. I want one so badly.

I also like corn snakes. They're really cute, too. :3

I hope you can get one eventually!! I love snakes!! Corn snakes really are so cute. :love

Yes, they are adorable, when I move out, I will get one. I can have any snake, just no boas or pythons, but I can have a 3 ft lizard. :he

I had a ball python before and it was I sanely vicious, but it was being fed live mice before I bought it. It was rough handling it because it did want to bite me constantly.

I recommend you NEVER feed live mice! It turns them into an insane predator and they aren't friendly once they have that prey drive with live mice.

Other than that, I loved my ball python!

Live feeding does not do that. I've owned ball pythons since 2008, and I feed live. I can easily handle all of my snakes.

Also, better to feed them rats (starting with rat fuzzies when they are hatchlings).

Just because you had a different experience doesn't mean it doesn't happen. I've even had breeders tell me that they don't recommend live mice either.

I reccomend frozen feeders because it's easier to come by obviously and less risk of the snake being bitten/scratched by it's prey. Rodent bites are nasty. Rodents can easily break your snake's skin, leaving them susceptible to infections. Many snakes have lost eyes or have suffered other injuries from live prey.

Yes. Mine got injured by a live feeder mouse and it wasn't an adult mouse either. I find it too risky to feed them.

It is. I'd rather not take the risk. For example, I have a rescued rat snake that is blind in his left eye because of a rodent scratch. I took him in a year ago and he happily accepts frozen feeders.
I want to get another snake or lizard, I'm not sure yet. So you just thaw out the feeders and hold it with tongs?

Yeah the warning against feeding live is more in regards to risk to the snake than any behavior issues it might cause. 'Vicious' behavior is far more likely due to other factors.

I thaw out the mice for my cornsnake and put them in his feeding box, then I put Noodle in there and close it up. His feeding box is about the size of a shoebox, so it's small enough that he really can't miss the mice :p plus it gives me a chance to have him out of his tank so I can clean it while he's eating. I've never had to hold the mice for him or wiggle them or anything, but other snakes may need that stimulation.
