my vote is for a defender of the constitution, not one who is bought out by the bankers, corporations, etc. One who will look out for what is right for America!!!

Actually, a Classical Liberal is more accurately a libertarian, though to a point, the two terms used to be interchangeable. As Amigo pointed out, Establishment Republicans have corrupted the term conservative. Establishment Democrats have corrupted the term liberal, and it just gets screwier from there.

How about we call ourselves Jeffersonians? As in, Thomas Jefferson. "The other guys," neoconservatives, liberals, and other Establishment types are Hamiltonians, or in extreme instances, Marxists.

Speaking of which, Ron Paul 2012. The man could be the next Jefferson. If he won, this would be THE most important election since 1800. A business-as-usual election would basically seal our doom, and I now include Herman Cain as only a little better than business-as-usual. Bachmann might be OK, I need to find out her stance on the Afghan War.

I also DO like Ron Paul. But face it, sadly, he's not going to win. And it makes me very sad that he doesn't have a chance. He is one of the most sincere honest guys running. Which brings me to my choice of Herman Cain. We need to choose someone who can defeat Obama, and I think, feel, Herman Cain can do it. He will bring over some of the black vote which no white person will. I'm not racist, I just hate Obama's policies. He is taking this country in the WRONG direction. When is he going to start taking responsibility for his mess, instead of blaming Bush, the tsunami, the hurricane, the Arab Spring, etc. It's always everyone else's fault, never his.

I agree with a lot of what Ron Paul says, but not all (that would be a pipe dream finding a candidate like that). I do wonder how he'll get the Republican nomination with his intention to end the drug war. I agree with that as well, but it runs so counter to the current Republican platform of social conservatism -- though it fits with the old-school "keep the government out of my personal life" ideology that is virtually extinct among his party.

Some of the things with which I don't agree, however, are somewhat profound.

Where's Ralph Nader in all this?

Personally I'm thinking "now that's sad" to the comment on thinking he's great but won't make it, thus, we should support and/or vote for someone else. . . The reason they won't make it is because you yourself never bothered to put in the support or vote for them.

Well, I hope that wasn't directed toward me, but I can't vote for him until he wins the primary -- I'm a registered Democrat. If he wins the primary, I won't be just pulling the lever for my party reflexively because the other candidate's party is currently repulsive to me -- I'd have some serious thinking to do. It's all about who the Republicans vote for in the primary.

And btw, how many of you actually DO vote in the primary? I'm accustomed to hearing people say they're pulling for this one or that one, but don't bother to actually "pull the lever" until it's time for the general election.

Actually black and white would better be transliterated "Let your nays be nay and your yas be ya. I prefer a decided person over a fence sitter.

Actually, liberal seems to have become a dirty word because I keep hearing it pronounced 'liiiibbbbberrraaawlllllll", in the obligatory deep voice. I must try that on my dog when she is misbehaving. "Dooooooooaaaaaawgggg". I especially like hearing how the political group I am most closely aligned with is pronounced. You have to have a spittle guard up for that one. XD

It is interesting to me how black and white many people's views are. Nothing new, I come from a family who had an even more limited ability to view a full spectrum than most people. UV is totally off the charts, but so was a simple orange.

Not directed to anyone but reminded by jennh's comments.

Personally I think it's kinda crazy that we have to make so many "official" turnarounds, like registering to Democrat, but wait! Now there's a Republican we like, so now we gotta register Republican, . . . But we know in 4-8 years we'll switch back.

Kinda weird, no?

If you buy something for half price that you don't need is thst a savings, I ask my wife that question all the time.
