Actually, a Classical Liberal is more accurately a libertarian, though to a point, the two terms used to be interchangeable. As Amigo pointed out, Establishment Republicans have corrupted the term conservative. Establishment Democrats have corrupted the term liberal, and it just gets screwier from there.

How about we call ourselves Jeffersonians? As in, Thomas Jefferson. "The other guys," neoconservatives, liberals, and other Establishment types are Hamiltonians, or in extreme instances, Marxists.

Speaking of which, Ron Paul 2012. The man could be the next Jefferson. If he won, this would be THE most important election since 1800. A business-as-usual election would basically seal our doom, and I now include Herman Cain as only a little better than business-as-usual. Bachmann might be OK, I need to find out her stance on the Afghan War.

Yea! Ron Paul '12! I've already got the sign up in my yard!

why would anyone want to model them, selves after Thomas Jefferson. he illegally denied the supreme courts ruling and removed native people who legally owned property under united state slaw in a mass migration that killed many people, and even tuned his back on his friend who fought for him in a war that shamed his friends people so that he could make a greedy grab for more land,

Jefferson was not a hero.

Jefferson was not a hero. He was a heartless greedy monster.

I defy you to find a single person in political history who didn't have severe issues (JFK and his connections with the mob come to mind, as does FDR's imprisonment of Japanese citizens for no other reason than their nationality). On a political/constitutional level Jefferson was unbeatable. Jefferson was a Deist, I'm a Christian. I'm not claiming to be exactly like the guy. But on a purely governmental level, his philosophy was spot on. I also admire John C. Calhoun, not for his defense of slavery, but for his defense of the Constitution and States' rights. I admire Lysander Spooner, not for his support of mass-murderer John Brown, but because of his defense of liberty and his spectacular case against slavery.

Could you elaborate on the whole "turning his back on a friend" thing? (And could you please use better punctuation? It's honestly difficult to read.)

Cain is my candidate.

My main concern is his lack of knowledge of foreign policy matters, but maybe that's a good thing at this point. Actually, few of the other candidates have any foreign policy experience or knowledge either.

I like Benjamin Franklin. His picture is on the $100 bill.
