We have recently moved to Grenada and acquired 1 peacock & peahen. We picked them up 2 days ago with 1 egg.
Yesterday there were 2 more eggs.
We have secured them in a shaded area
My questions are:-
How long do we need to keep them secured prior to letting them roam free? How would I know if the eggs are fertilized? If they're not, are they edible?
When is their mating season?

Welcome to BYC! Mating season is now, and if she has been with the male the eggs are probably fertile. Hopefully the other will chime in on how long to keep them penned, but I would probably keep them in for 3-6 months.

We were thinking about securing them for 3-4 days so they have been tied up in the shaded area. But if it is that long then we need to get a pen built ASAP?

When we went to pick them up they were tied with a loose loop around one leg, and were told to do this when we got them home.
Wrong?
