Rescue Duck help

Hi. This is my first post but I found this forum a week ago after adopting some ducklings. You all have been helpful in our start up duck family.
Yesterday my husband came home with a young Mallard. This poor duck was in a large area with chickens and looks to have been pecked and had it's new feathers pulled out.
3 questions:
1. how old is this sweetie?
2. Male or female?
3. Should I worry about disease and keep him away from my younger ducklings?
Other advice? Pls. Thank you!

Probably need better pics to determine age, but if a mallard, most likely it is a female.
The duck needs a better waterer - it should be deep enough to stick its nares in and the chick waterer isn't going to work for that.

If new feathers are coming in probably between 4-5 weeks old. How old are your first ducklings? I'd introduce in a larger area and observe, hopefully the Mallard will be nice and accept the ducklings as her flock.

Aww so pretty and look at it's little back boy those chickens were brutal.. So glad your dh brought the lil one home.. As for sex 2 things first Drakes and females look alike until drakes molt into their nuptial plumage that is when he'll get his beautiful green head and coloring females stay the same and the drake will get a curl on his tail feathers.

But the first telltale sign will be voice the females quack loudly and the drakes sound like they have a cold their quack is very raspy. The voice starts coming in around 6-8 weeks or longer. Depending on the breed. So you have a bit of a wait about sex. It sure is a cutie though.

At least they didn't begin to eat the lil one yet. Yes chickens are cannibals.
