The small lake in the park in our town had so many dumped domestic ducks and geese that the town finally passed an ordinance making it unlawful to feed the waterfowl and then rounded all of the domestic birds up and took them to an auction to be sold. Although it sounds harsh it was very good for the lake and the wild ducks and geese that live there. The lake was very over crowded and polluted by poop and you couldn't walk anywhere without stepping in large quantities of poop. Also they had problems with the geese chasing people who they thought had food.

At our larger lake, there are people who regularly feed them and it's not disallowed and sometimes encouraged. So far, there is plenty of room there for a lot more ducks and other waterfowl. Many migrate in for the winter. But, I wish people wouldn't drop Indian runner ducks off, especially. First, they can't really fly that well and second, when they breed with the wild mallards, their offspring often can't fly well, either.

Would food really indecate if a duck is domesticated or not?? At our local duck pond they pretty much eat anything possible to eat, and I don't think their tastebuds would change if they're people-fied or not

But I dunno, never had a captured/rescue duck before.
How are you planning to capture a duck? Wouldn't they just move into the water if your a threat? Or are they tame?
At the local pond here I reckon people would be pretty angry if any duck was removed, wild or not - so I agree with the checking.
