Rescued abandoned chicken - has white butt, barely eating, watery yellow poo w black pieces

Well...Thelma made it through the night. Drinking water with a bit of ACV in it, won't touch the dry starter food, went out a got some broccoli leave pieces and grass...she is picking at it. Eats a few pieces. Laying down...sometimes alert, sometimes eyes are closed. She has had the water and a few blades of grass but when I am feeling her crop, it is warm, soft and egg size. (photo included) I was going to tube feed her again...but my intuition says to wait a bit?

I wonder too is it is like this from some of the food last night? (not moving it along?)

This is her poo from the night before:

The day before this poo she had been drinking pretty good and ate a bit of the food that I put on a rock. To me it looks like yeasty stuff...with other stuff in it.

When she picks at the grass she shakes her head...and it STILL seams like there is an egg near her butt from feeling from the outside.

She could have a combo...

I'm surprised she is still alive really.

(Should I wait to de-worm her? Might go to a farm feed/supply store today...not sure if that would be too harsh on her body while she is so low energy and not eating on her own)

Thanks all...

Beautiful full moon last night. Hope all is well with everyone.

Shelly

Just a couple of quick things. First whenever I have changed birds from one type of food to another it has given them diareah. So while I'm sure that's not all that is wrong with your bird it may be that your changing feeds added to the symptoms but the diareah may not be part of the bigger picture but rather to do with your feed change.

Also you asked about breathing from their butt movements and yes this is a sign they are going to lay an egg. I noticed a couple of mine doing this in the last few days while on the nesting box when I went to check for eggs.

That makes sense appps...I think there is a combo going on and I'm looking for one thing. Good point! Her bottom is pretty swollen...and there is pasty white stuff on her feathers near her vent...and she is just standing or sitting there (walked around a bit)...sometimes with one of her wings spread out. I was unable to locate the Kaylee Baby Bird Food. Only thing left is to worm her...and I don't have the stuff...none in my hometown...there is some an hour and a bit away. Hummm...

I'll call to see if the place is open on Saturday...

?

Thanks,

Shelly

Shelly, I'm totally rooting for you and Thelma. I'm convinced that only truly good people go out of their way for the well-being of a chicken.

Kathy, thank you for helping her. Youre a wonderful teacher.

Is her crop in the morning completely flat? If she has sour crop, they have diahhrea like that and they get a messy bottom.

Dear Kymette,

Your post got me all choked up! Teary. I needed that SO much. I can't tell you in words what that meant to me. {{{hugs}}}

Kathy!!! the good news is that she is back talking...and she was picking up bugs outside. I tube fed her again at supper time. I see improvement!

Will check her crop in the morning pwand.

What a great bunch of caring people.

Thelma has improved a bit! She is scavenging for food this morning! What a team! When I broke open her poop this morning and looked at it with a magnifying glass I see the leafy pieces that she ate yesterday and I *think* a worm. It is still yeasty looking. Her crop was flat...so not sour crop! Her bottom isn't as swollen. Yesterdays tube feed was: starter, calcium, hemp/flax oil, yogurt, turmeric, vitamin/electrolyte mix, carrot, cooked hamburger and warm water...can't get the Exact Kaylee Baby Bird Feed here.

(photos of poo to follow as I can't load at the moment)

Thanks team!

Worm to the left? Can see undigested food and yeast?

Whooot! Good news is good news, and we can all use some of that! Sometimes love really does make the world keep spinning.

Warning: if you get her all fixed up, she may become rather bonded to you. See my profile picture? That's a hen I nursed back to health. Check out her face.. that bird loves me. Now I worry about her constantly. Be prepared for that.
