Rescued Roo from next door (now known as Larry) (pics on post #30)

Thanks, Cyn. I was afraid of that. He's on a diet now, will get feed in the morning and evening, and apples and such to nibble on during the day. But when he goes back, they'll let him eat alot again cause they only have 1 pen. I may not be able to extend his life much, but it will be a happy one.

Jody, I wish I was able to but I've already commited myself to another roo I haven't received yet, one that I need. At least when he goes back, he won't have those 2 bullies attacking him. I would not give him back till he will be safe over there. Their coop is twenty feet from my fence. Now that those 2 bullies are gone, I don't hear screaming all day, it's been quiet except for crowing.

Grace, I won't eat him but I think you're right.

Jody, I may have to hold onto him because he can barely walk. I,ve restricted his food, if he goes back he will get to eat all day. ( I knew I shouldn't have named him)

He's such a lucky little guy to have you.
Now he can get the treatment he needs. Maybe write them a simple medical list? So they can treat wounds themselves?
Just a thought

I've given them this website address several times, lists, advice, dusted their chickens for lice once, saved a life once, etc, for them. I still hate them! Almost 4 years of their stupidity-it's not like they neglect their pets- they are clueless, and Mr. makes like he's listening, but he doesn't. The wife and kid listen and understand and know, but Mr. is the "ruler", and I guess they don't get far with him.

Hopefully this year my DH will go visit the kids, and I will get some company to throw up a stockade fence. Sorry, they really make me steam! And I really want nothing to do with them, but I can't watch a poor chicken get beat up.

My meat chickens were in with the regular chickens up to a certain point they were just fine, then even the hens started picking on them. They went after hens and roos alike (I had a half dozen or so I hadn't gotten around to processing) I had to separate them til I could slaughter them, they would have killed all of them.

"I think the animal cruelty people won't do anything because the chickens have food, water, a coop and a pen. I think that's as far as it goes.

Anyway, I just got back. I did go over there and told them that the other chickens were going to kill him. I also told them that I can take him till he's better, but they have 6 more roos that will kill eachother. So they will have to rehome them. So they took 2 of the biggest bullies out and put them in the garage till tomorrow, then to the feed store, who takes chickens.

So that leaves them with 4 more. One is Morton, my old roo, a barred rock who's really nice. They have 2 game bird roos who aren't attacking anyone at this time. Then there's 2 more who may be hens or roos, I can't tell, their wattles and combs are not really as big and red as the other roos.

They are all vent pecked, some up to their chest underneath. That will be my next challange, to reduce his crowding, maybe the removal of 3 roos will make it better."

seminolewind-
first off i want to thank you for helping that poor Roo. his butt looks horrible... you've done the right thing in taking him under your wing and doing what you can.. i feel bad there isnt more i can offer for help, but i want it to be known to you for future reference and now... that you can call aspca for that condition he's in and those other roos... he obviously in pain, he's suffering, he's limping and has something seriously wrong in his rear end. i know you may not want to create problems with your neighbor.. but i did some research and i suggest you email this guy Jeremy from the SPCA of Central Florida about this. Its completely up to you i dont want to make you feel like you have to do this, i dont want to encourage problems between you... but what he's doing is wrong and if you cant take care of your animal thats limping and obviously in pain, thats neglect and im not saying he should be held accountable for it, but he needs to get some roo's off his hand and some education in his brain.. this central florida aspca has info, a hotline and an email.. their page on cruelty investigation is as follows:
"Sometimes it is difficult just to listen to the voice mail each day, as our community's citizens call in to report on pets they have seen hurt. A child shooting a cat with a b-b gun...a man kicking a dog…someone setting a pet on fire…someone throwing a pet out of a car window onto the highway…someone who suspects a neighbor is raising pets as bait for dog fighting….these are stories that tell us that perhaps our community is not as civilized as it thinks it is.

Here's the good news in this grim subject. Most of the time, the Society's Cruelty Investigators really serve as educators. Most of the time, pet owners just need to be taught, or reminded, about the proper way to shelter and care for their companion animals. These owners mean well, but perhaps were misinformed or misguided. Conversations, education and follow-up by SPCA staff most often will direct the owners to provide the appropriate level of care for their pets.

But on days when mere education is worse than useless, the Cruelty Investigators are there, working with Animal Services and law enforcement to bring the pets to safety and the criminals to justice.

It's never too early to identify this problem. Social scientists and law enforcement agencies now recognize that cruelty to animals is a serous HUMAN problem, closely linked to other violent crimes. Cruelty to animals is another form of family violence, and pets are often the most likely recipients of this violence.

To report a suspected case of cruelty or neglect, or to better understand the laws regarding animal cruelty and neglect, contact [email protected]."

sorry could not be of any more help, but i suggest contacting the email and just stating the manner of these animals and this poor roo... at least to get your self a grip on your local laws..maybe get him some help in taking the roo's..where you know they wont be mistreated or used for fighting...and whatnot.
the website for this information and the quote came from: http://www.ohs-spca.org/

also
for information regarding what IS considered animal cruelty please refer to this page: http://www.aspca.org/fight-animal-cruelty/reporting-cruelty-faq.html#whatiscruel
and
for information on your states specific animal cruelty laws see here: http://www.aspca.org/fight-animal-cruelty/lobby-for-animals/state-animal-cruelty-laws/fight-animal-cruelty/lobby-for-animals/state-animal-cruelty-laws/florida.html

please
just remember if you choose to do anything about this, that simple neglect which is the failure to provide basic needs is not always considered a criminal act..
