Hello Beautiful Humans,

Thank you to all of you for sharing your wisdom with us.

After loosing a chick two days ago, I turned from my holistic ways to save my remaining 3.
I have two 4/5 week old silkies and 1 , 2-3 week old cochin.

After reading the many threads on coccidiosis and respiratory plansof action I am seeking advise on what to do with the info I gathered.

I started chicks on corid’s amprolium. Day 3.
I am rotating fresh water with amprolium, vetRX, save- a chick, mother’s vinegar and fresh garlic.

I have two sneezing chicks. After running a ultrasonichumidifier with silver mist, they are still sneezing.

I understand this could be a virus, or bacterial.

I bought sulmet and tylan 50 ( injection) for these reasons.

If I am already using corid, what is the smartest and best regiment to take with these little chicks?
Feed store gentleman said I should use corid at least 12-14 days.

Will you please clarify how I should tackle my respiratory issues Going from here?
I do not know how to use these medicines. Anyone I have consulted has not been very helpful so I am asking all of you.
I also have not done any nose, under wing, or under feet vetrx applications.
I am nervous with their little nostrils and don’t want to put fluid that could be more challenging for them.

I am keeping their space extrawarm, no drafts . Space heater and heat lamp till they show signs of vitality.
They eat, sleep, poop ( getting firmer) , love and seem like We are possibly getting out of danger area.
I know I am guessing with coccidiosis and how respiratory is secondary. I am confused on where to go from here and don’t want to take the chicks to the vet.

Also, with Tylan 50, the injection formula is ok to give orally or? Feed store man did not reassure me here.

Apologies if this info is available but from a holistic background , this is confusing and I appreciate your help. My chicks do too.

Yes, you can give Tylan orally. It needs to be give twice daily and the dose is 50 mg per pound.

Do you know that even if you treat a respiratory disease, it never goes away? They carry it forever, and have symptom flare ups whenever they are stressed. Additionally, they will pass it to every bird they ever come into contact with, meaning you can never ever sell or give away any of your birds to others.

And if this is a virus, the Tylan will of course not do anything for it.

You might want to have Zoologix test them to see what disease you're dealing with. They will run a full respiratory panel for you for $98, and all you have to do is get three swabs from their mouths to mail them. Then you'll know what you're dealing with.
