I know this sounds like the strangest thing but whenever I get restless legs - mostly my left leg, if I get up and go to the bathroom (#1), it will stop......I may be laying there not even feeling an urge to urinate but if I give it a try and even do a little (I know - TMI!
), it really works. Also, try going to the bathroom about 1/2 hour before bedtime and then once more before you actually turn in for the night. Works for me almost every time. Another thing I do is lay on my side with a pillow between my knees and that seems to help also......Lots of luck to you - RSL is one of the meanings behind my screen name - NGT ANGL - Night Angel - up too many nights pacing the floor with it..........
seriously... i'll ask my mom about it again... it's what her dr. told her... because there's something, a protein, or some such that can get in our bones that we don't need so much of.
Maple - not sure if your question about red meat was directed at me or the OP but since your response was right under mine, the answer to the red meat question for me is no - I don't eat much read meat but I live on coffee - morning/noon/night...
Maple - I would like to know what your mom's doctor says about it though. My own "cure" came from the insanity it caused and the observation of what gave some relief.....just don't have a clue about the cause except the probability of too much caffeine!
I had it before it had a name, too. It lasted 4-5 months and then just went away on its own.
Miserable feeling. I started taking a Benadryl to allow me to sleep, and went to the spare bedroom to sleep so DH could get his rest. I paced at night until I discovered the Benadryl trick, and it helped with the allergies too!
If you've been drinking coffee for years on end I can't see it would make a difference in such a sudden way.
I don't know why the coffee would cause it now after years upon years of drinking coffee either...?? I think I am just getting old and falling apart........
