Restoring An Old Hen-house

That video was amazing! Your new chicken coop look amazing, I also will be very interested to see how it turns out.

Neat video! That might explain why I have hawk feathers inside my barn (where the coop is located). It can't get inside the coop but it's obviously been through there looking for mice or whatever. It would have to go through an empty window pane. I've seen goshawks hanging around too.

As far as poison ivy and chickens go I recently finished my chicken run and coop which is in the wood line between the neighbor's house and ours. The poison ivy here (Ohio) was running rampid! When we first began our coop in February I had to take my son to the doc for medicine because he was covered in it! The doctor was amazed that we had him in there for it in the middle of winter, that was a summertime problem! Anyway, we only moved and tore up what we had to, we were all covered by the time we finished, and I am letting the chickens take care of the rest. It only took them about 3 days to get rid of all of the leaves and they are currently working on the vines. I hold the chickens frequently and have not gotten poison ivy from them, so I don't know if the oil does not stay on their feathers but it sure does not seem like it...

The hen house looks like it is going to be amazing! Hope you can post more pics soon!

that looks awesome
i am restoring the coop in the old barn on my property
would love to ask questions -

do i need heat at all if its in an enclosed barn?
i am in CT
i was thinking of putting a couple of hanging lights in the ceiling, and having 2 be with red heat bulbs.
any thoughts?
have "fancy feather feet asst " from murray mcmurray and 4 polish ladies (who i just LOVE)
they are all a week old now, and hanging in my mudroom.

any thoughts on electric chicken doors vs a pulley?

I would not be of any use in advising you on heating requirements in CT. I live in Alabama and, with that opaque greenhouse fiberglass roof, heating in winter is NOT on my list of things that need to be worried about. My biggest concern, climate wise, is ventilation in the summer. I'm currently trying to decided where and how to place some windows that wouldn't loot out of place on this building, lol. I have no experience with the electric doors. But the discussions that I have seen seem to indicate that they can be a major pain in boot-ay to set up because virtually anything in the track will jam it. But once it's set up and working they are wonderful. Again, no personal experience here, that's just what I've seen in discussions.

OK, I am officially in LOVE with that wood siding my dad found for the coop. It fits together sooooo wonderfully, and it looks pretty darn good too. Got some pic, gonna start uploading them in just a sec, I hope they are ok, it was getting dark. If not, I'll take more tomorrow.
