Username is from the car not any kind of actual bird. Was raised with chickens, lots and lots of chickens, for both eggs and meat. So when groceries got ridiculous I decided to help myself and got some. *Now* I get to try to remember how mom did it... LOL I'm not doing too bad I guess. I got four, lost one (don't know why), got 8 more, lost one to heat (it's been over 100 several days in a row), and have three more chicks coming up. I've moved the coop and am working on an evaporative fan solution to the heat. Seems to be working. Whenever I have questions or what I remember doesn't make sense I seem to end up here so I figured I might as well join and benefit from the experience of others!

Yup. South Texas and I thought after last year, if I was going to lose a chicken it would have *been* last year but nope...from Central Texas! I hear ya on the heat, it's been smoking hot and humid here! Best of luck with your birds!
I lost a BCM pullet last year, she was about 22 weeks, it was terrible. We made some alterations this year so I'm hoping for no more lossesYup. South Texas and I thought after last year, if I was going to lose a chicken it would have *been* last year but nope...
