rheas

Hi
I have kept Rheas since 1992 and we had some harsh few winters, not lasted long.
Rheas are very hardy, once about 5 -7 months, not before, I have an open shed for them, for food in a bucket..if you put feeder on wall, half gets wasted to floor, not eat it. and fresh water outside...at 1st gave them a strawbed, but they just would not go in, no matter how cold. One winter we had min13. they tried to get up when I got in field, but were frozen to ground, so had to wait till sun was thawing them lol.. and the Llamas always ate the stawbed, lol so gave up on this.

They don't deter a fox , but would be killed. I have evidence from several other rhea keepers, sadly all got killed.
Mine all are guarded by Llamas, from about 10 weeks onwards daytime...then they get supper, veggies, in house and ...locked in for the night ....Gotcha lol and younger Rheas throughout the winter.
Calla.
