We ordered 6 rhode island red females and now I am assuming we have 3 males and 3 females. Here are some pictures of what the 3 I am suspecting are boys look like. I have a female the same age (7ish weeks old) in one of the pictures to help compare. The tails look so different as well. They are shorter at the moment and curl a little. Am I correct or is it normal for RIR chicks to look like that?

Yeah, larger combs is the only way to tell at this moment with that breed. Around 12 weeks you may see some longer tail feathers. Some breeds you can tell by the feathering, but not RIRs.

Where did you get them from? You may qualify for a refund depending on their policy.

Thank you for your reply! I ordered from Country Visions and they said the will call the hatchery. I understand when one of them end up being a male but not 50%of my order. They were very nice when I talked to them.

We would need to see the combs / wattles on the other one in question. The tail feathers are not nearly as helpful.
Thank you for your reply. Here is a better view of all three.

:welcome Picture 4 is a cockerel, and bird in foreground of picture 5 is a cockerel. Gender ID not possible in the other pictures.
Thank you for your reply. I posted better pictures of the combs to this thread.

Yep, those all look like cockerels.

That is good. I haven't heard such good things about TSC when folks are in this situation, so I am glad they are helping you out.

I think with TSC a lot is at the liberty of the store manager. Like with ours who were not actually French Wheaten Marans, and one turned out to be a cockerel to boot, she gave us a full refund without me really pressing at all. I just told her what happened and she was like okay, I'll give you a refund. 🤷

I mean, doesn't help that now I have precious little space in my flock being taken up by birds that are not what I planned on. But anyway, they were free. Haha
