I don't remember mine being shriekers. Noisy, yes. I'd just open the door & shove everyone outside ~ but this lot are little urbanites & until they become a little bush wise they need supervision. We have snakes & monitor lizards & redbacks. Very little fazes me along those lines but I've lived with it all my life. What you're not used to can be scary as well as dangerous. When my husband's nephew was about two or three he was the same. Very shrieky and noisy.
Well one day my German Shepherd dog had enough. Have you ever seen what a mama dog does to her puppies when they get too noisy or push her too far? The mama will put her mouth over the puppy's muzzle and hold them for a moment and the puppy quiets down.
My girl had never had puppies but she knew what to do to get some peace! She put her mouth over his face. It worked! He had a little scrape on his nose from one of her teeth going past but not another mark on him.
I can't handle xenophobia either. Lucky for me, I see very little of it although some of my extended family members hold extremely questionable views and then respond with anger when the questions inevitably arise. They're deaf to the persecution in their words and unwilling to consider other ways of thinking, because of this I no longer hold respect for them.
Hello Sue. Stirling job on the catch up. Great to hear you're home.![]()
Oh no! Good luck with it mate. I was lucky with my dad, he was very forward-thinking and communitarian in his beliefs and choices. He fought on behalf of others and made no adveraries - he was very magnanimous and keen on building a strong Australia for Australians and for humanity more broadly. Mum was too sick to engage meaningfully in literally any discussion, which might've been a good thing because she was a malcontent. That is known as āwhite fragilityā (I am assuming your family is white, although that assumption alone shows prejudice!) and this is something my dad suffers from greatly. I dread spending time with him because of this, and even more so at the thought of my mum dying first (which she probably will). I anticipate a very frank discussion about which topics will be off-limits and I am dreading that also.
My Dad is a bit like yours Lozzy. Luckily my Mum tempered him somewhat and would always make a comment if he was being racist. That is known as āwhite fragilityā (I am assuming your family is white, although that assumption alone shows prejudice!) and this is something my dad suffers from greatly. Same as my parents only in reverse!Oh no! Good luck with it mate. I was lucky with my dad, he was very forward-thinking and communitarian in his beliefs and choices. Instructions ? Guys don't read directions LOL@Kris5902 has not reached the fun part of building~ Flat packs!
Yesterday it was the bunks beds. It should be illegal for whoever does these things to have so little command of the Queen's English they cannot match either the letters or the numbers on the timber to those that came with the instructions for assembly! And that was after I'd negotiated the 2nd web site they gave! The 1st one drew a complete blank!

After 3 hours with little to no forward progress & a multitude of parts that bore little to no resemblance to the diagrams, I called for reinforcements.
The man has no patience for fiddly stuff like this so his solution was a drill & the biggest screws he could find. Baby, this bed ain't going nowhere!!!
This morning I am doing drawers. So far so good but can anyone tell me why the tiny tools they supply don't come with a decent handle?! My fingers are bruised.
I am so over this renno.
So are the chickens.
I let them out late yesterday planning to spend some time with them. I got called away to hold something & when I got back 1/2 the flock were next door digging up their yard. I was so out of patience by then I lured everyone home with meal worms & shoved them back in the coop! It has poured steadily the last 2 days so they haven't even had my attention @ meal time. They call frantically anytime I stick my head outside but they cannot be trusted & are having a pretty boring time of it. By Tuesday the worst should be over, the DIL & grand~kiddies will be in residence & I plan on spending a lot of time with my poor girls!
Gota build to the Picture on the box LOLI know what you mean about flat pack instructions. The ikea ones are usually easy to follow but I once bought a log holder and for the life of me, I could not work out how it went together. It didn't help that the text was in a language I couldn't read. In the end, we threw away the instructions and just worked it out from looking at the parts. I'm still not sure we got it right.
