My idea of joy ~ but neither child has been trained to story books. Mum puts them on IT stuff & then tells me they have short attention spans!Sounds like a good opportunity to snuggle down with a cup of hot cocoa and a grand kid on each side and read a picture book.![]()

My kids never really got into Milly Molly Mandy unfortunately, though I like them!My idea of joy ~ but neither child has been trained to story books. Mum puts them on IT stuff & then tells me they have short attention spans!Neither is keen on being read to.
My 3 year olds could listen to 3 or 4 picture books in a row, or even a Milly~Molly~Mandy story without trouble & I had a bunch of dyslexic ADDs. Even as High schoolers, in a power outage, mine would ask to be read to to pass the evening. I don't get the technology thing ~ except maybe mum thinks it gives her a break.
I had my mum's copies so they had historical value. My kids never really got into Milly Molly Mandy unfortunately, though I like them!
My favourites are probably the Alfie stories by Shirley Hughes
Me too. They contribute to the story as much, if not more, than the words.I had my mum's copies so they had historical value. We got all the Alfie stories from the library. I love her illustrations!
I actually bought this for my GS!Me too. They contribute to the story as much, if not more, than the words.
"Alfie gets in first" is a particularly good example of this. It shows small children so naturally. One of my absolute favorites! The way she captures the increasing distress of Alfie and
Annie-Rose's growing fractiousness is spot on.View attachment 2262409
I also really liked things like Goodnight Owl & Where the Wild Things Are ~ but I worked as a children's librarian & minored in Drama @ uni so I don't mind making a fool of myself.I actually bought this for my GS!It's terrific. He loved it.
We've had over 100mm of rain in the past 24 hours ~ heavy, torrential, thundering rain. The girls pen is a soaked slimy mess. The run is ok ~ but they can't be in it. The sand box is ok but that is 14 girls huddled in an 8X8' space ~ which is obviously not enough space for 14 girls, though not everyone has bothered to get up yet. They got about a 15 minute run yesterday ~ the only sort of break we got in the weather. I can't get out to them this morning to check on them. Visibility is close to zero & the rain is pelting. Haven't seen rain like this in a long, long time & we have another 24 hours of it yet.
Sunny winter days and crisp Autumn days are the best.
I'm dreading Summer![]()
