Ribh's D'Coopage

And that video is delightful :loveLottie :love Soooo cute.
Lottie is such a sweetie & seems to have found a really secure place in the flock. It's Patricia/Penny who is right @ the bottom & doesn't ever seem to buddy up with anyone. I'm not sure why & feel sorry for her. It may just be because she looks so odd. Not her fault & probably same result in any flock she joined. She doesn't make overtures to buddy up with anyone either so maybe that's just the way she is.

It looks to me like she's pretty much finished molting. New feathers in & not a lot of bald patches. Is she still losing feathers?

Not at the rate of a few weeks ago. She seems to be eating more but her poops are still watery. Oh!! She just a solid one as I was writing! I reckon she must be nearly back to normal :woot

Although it seems kinda unlikely, maybe she's an introvert? A chickrovert? :gig

Seriously, I understand your concern and I'd be having the same thoughts if she were my bird.

I've just mucked out the big coop. It has a heavy mesh floor, so when I put fresh litter in there I always make it quite deep so it's comfy for the chooks. When it begins to turn unpleasant I take it all out and put fresh litter in. So, while it's deep litter, it's not the deep litter method. Anyway, I was very popular with Sandy who came in while I was working and got in the way *cough* I mean, had a lovely time bug hunting among the piles of litter (that I'd only just raked up). Hahaha, I must admit she did a great job on pest extermination.

It does sound like she's done. *breathes sigh of relief*. Namaste has only just finished. 4+ months of it we've had & a while before she's laying again! Such a poor threadbare girl she was!!! I reckon I could have stuffed a pillow with the amount of feathers she lost ~ plus a heap of condition. She's doing so much better now her molt has finished. :)

Hepzibah was my *chicktrovert* When she arrived she would always stand back & watch before she joined in anything ~ including scrabbling for food, she would never demean herself by fighting for a choice morsel!~ & would wander off & do her own thing, quite happy to be alone & I liked her because of it. She was so thoughtful & considered in everything she did. Now she is top chook & a bit of a bully [better now the pecking order is settled].

Patricia isn't like that. I think she may be a late bloomer as most of the standards are now either laying or really close ie scrabbling around in the nesting boxes & sitting for ages with no result. Not Patricia. She's still doing the chest bumping so is intent on coming up the social order but though most of the other chickens back down from her she is still bottom when it comes to food. Even Lottie is doing better. I picked her up last night to hand feed her but she wasn't really interested & had a full crop but Patricia was hungry & hovering on the fringes waiting, as was Lavender. The Campines were in & out like lightening @ each station but Ha'penny got double caught in the act & paid for it. She was flat to the ground with 2 pecking her for her insolence! Patricia's very stand~offish with me too which makes it hard for me to intervene. Lottie I can handle; Patricia I would have to herd...

Chicken *help* with coop cleaning has to be experienced to be believed!:gigI do DLM in my coop run ~ works beautifully. Any *smells* I toss in leaf litter or the fire ashes & give it a quick turn over with the rake...no, actually I rake it all into a pile & let the girls go ballistic! They love it & it's all spread out again in no time ~ minus the smells! I'm careful because the coop pretty much sits under a neighbour's kitchen window... @ present I'm tossing the coop litter into the 2nd run with a heap of leaf litter because there's @ least 6" of litter in the coop run & you know what chickens are like; we are down to bare earth & moonscaping in the 2nd run.

@ some point last night it went down to just 5 degrees ~ almost unheard off. Even so the girls had to wait while the temperature rose 4 degrees before I braved the elements. I know you hardy northern types think we're terrible wooses but this cold is not enjoyable. Even my girls, cold hardy as they be, went rushing for the sunniest spots this morning.

The triple A :celebrate..... and lovely, lovely ladies!

My Claire is always off by herself.. never with anyone.. she has always been on the bottom and now she has the middles and the babies the run after and peck on.. so at this rate she will always be alone.. but she always wants cuddles from me
