Ribh's D'Coopage

I feel like the worst chicken owner in the world. Let me begin at the start.
As you all know I had a fox kill 12 chickens of mine and I have bought 5 more. My baby Wyendotte froze to death last night. It was 0 degrees and the 3 other pullets and the rooster where fine. God I feel AWFUL! I’m no too sure I could have done anything to help but OMG I feel like the worst chicken owner.

Oh no. I'm so sorry I understand your sadness and self-recrimination, I would feel the same. But @rjohns39 and @Ribh are right, don't put the burden on your conscience. It's not your fault. She might've simply had a heart attack? :hugs:(

Also, your other chooks are fine, so I think it wasn't the weather. If one bird froze, surely the others would too? I think maybe she simply died from a health condition that was hard to spot.

I didn't know Australia ever got that cold. But then there are a billion things I don't know.
Lots I don't know about America too. :) Queensland had snow for the 1st time in 4 years this week. Nowhere near me. Down on the border & up in the mountains but we are so far north it really shouldn't happen.:lau Where Butterscotch is gets really heavy frosts regularly through winter but I thought about it & I think MaryJanet is right: there was an underlying problem.

So sorry for you. I don’t think there was anything you could have done. I agree there was probably more at play than just the weather. Sorry I’ve been all wrapped up in my hatch and missed your post, hugs and more hugs... cold weather is just awful
