Ribh's D'Coopage

Any hints on how to change a cat's preference of litter box location would be much appreciated. Mine have decided they want to go just by the front door which is fine during Covid because nobody uses the front door and I have no visitors, but I would love if they would use the boxes in the basement or the utility room or upstairs like they used to. They have lots of choice but they have picked a spot it seems. :he
This is exactly what I am concerned about. The thing I hear most often is to move their poo from what they are using to where you want them to go. They will recognize the scent and start going there. I have not done so in a long time but it has worked for me before.

I have been trying that. So far no luck. I will persevere. :he

I am down one broody. Wrold is broken.
Hepzibah is pathetic.
She stands @ the coop door bokking away & huddles against the wire as close to her flock mates as possible but every chance she gets she heads straight for a nesting box!

She's not the aggressive broody Wrold is so rather than chance losing her @ roosting time I popped her in the small coop with the Littlies. Hepzibah stood @ the end closest to her tribe bokking mournfully; the Littlies huddled @ the other end. There were no issues @ all so I left them too it.

When I heard the Littlies peeping their roosting calls I went out to check on things.
Hepzibah had already gone to roost & the Littlies were lined up along their ladder behind Regan all ready to proceed in an orderly fashion to bed. I had my fingers crossed. There is always the chance you'll get lucky & Hepzibah already had her place on the roost.
Perish the thought. As soon as Regan stepped into the coop Hepzibah went her. 🙄
The Littlies fled. *sigh*

I opened the side door & nabbed Hepzibah & we sat & watched the Littlies troop happily up the ladder & to bed but when Hepzibah tried the same thing she found the pop door was down. She knew that was the opening. She could see the gap I had left for ventilation but get in she could not.
.
She should be over it but like most of my broodies she is stubborn & persistent

Timing is not good. No new cats here until Isabel passes and I can properly litter train them. She can no longer go downstairs because of her arthritis. So we have a littler box upstairs for her that Davis now uses as well instead of going down the steps. I don't want 3 cats pooping upstairs. Once Isabel is gone and I have Davis trained to use the boxes downstairs again, then we can consider another cat.

Completely understandable!!

Are there different styles of boxes? If so, I'd move the favorite box to your preferred location. I then show the cats the new location, tell them that's the box now and give a treat of two, especially if they use it right away, you know how cats are with a clean box.
