I did some coop maintenance this morning while everybody had their morning run. It always amuses me so much because the Big Girls love when I do a tidy up. The sand is raked free of debris. The feeder is full. The water tubs are scrubbed & fresh. The run is raked & today I moved the biggest log so the Littles should be out of sight @ feed time & there is a grub'n'bug fest in the big coop. The Big Girls promptly invaded as soon as I gave them access but the Littles have opted for some time in the little coop. I think that's fair. A bit of a break from each other is never a bad thing. And everybody got a watermelon treat. It's the 1st time the Littlies have shown much interest in treats but they hoed in like troopers! No doubt the run will be a shambles in no time again but it's nice to know a clean up job is so appreciated.

Don’t you just love it? You clean and tidy up the coop and in a day they have it trashed again! Haha.

Don’t you just love it? You clean and tidy up the coop and in a day they have it trashed again! Haha.

I wish I could come up with a fool proof way of keeping their water clean. It's so gross so fast!

Let me know how that goes. There are you tube videos of people doing this with their cats but I can't imagine doing it with either of mine. They are not into adventuring...

I think we have full integration. There is no squawking from the hen house this morning & Olivia even hopped up on a stump beside Hepzibah until she realised she'd got one of the Big Girls by mistake! This is good news as I think Alpia is going broody on me ~ Again! ~ & now I have the little coop free again she will find herself in exile if she doesn't smarten up!

I am super happy with how this has gone. I was worried as the Littlest are so very little but it's Regan the Big Girls usually go for & I suspect that's because she's a more mature hen. Everyone seems to know the babies are still babies; even my big fluffy sooks, Portia & Gloriana aren't pecked much & when they are they back down fast.
