This is why Regan is such a great lead hen for the Littlies!
She looks deformed but Titania is snuggled up under that deformed looking wing & Regan is ok with that. You can see Titania's tail feathers poking out the back.

I stack mine as high as I can get... they can still get dirty but not near as bad! It stays pretty clean mostly...

I do the same and I provided a log as a step for the littles. I also use a nipple one in the summer which stays 100% clean.

I do wonder about breed quality in the States. I tried to wriggle out of getting a GLW because I knew you'd had issues with Sansa but Gloriana is an absolute sweetheart! Yes, yes, I know each bird is an individual ~ but honestly, I've seen so many mean GLW posts I was really dubious. I would have passed but the man was really keen so against my better judgement... and I couldn't have got a nicer bird!

I just wonder if a lot of my problems are the Lord of the Flies philosophy that seems to be how they have organized their society since Patsy was in charge.

As you can see, the chicken wire supports it well. It used to be mounted to the outside of the nursery coop with the pipe and nipple sticking through the wire.

How do you keep this from freezing in the winter.

Here's a link to the article I wrote about our water nipple system. You could use a smaller container, say a 5 gallon bucket or whatever your equivalent is. The barrel sits outside the enclosed pen...so it takes up very little space and you could even extend the water nipple bar into the big run.

This time I am serious. How do you keep this from freezing? I know that you get freezing temperatures.
