Oh, Meg! Half the man's family are terrified of spiders ~ which is rough round here as we have whole families of them, so I do understand. My GS is the same & I've had to retrain him as some of our spiders have names & squashing them is not an option.

Squashing a spider? Oh no, that isn't good at all. I grew up that it was unlucky to squash a spider! I have only recently overcome that superstition to be comfortable feeding them to the chickens!

Well round here the big ones eat the big black cockroaches we get so they have a job to do & it saves on sprays.

I think that actually may be why my mother taught me that - she felt they ate bugs and that was a good thing. It is funny how that sort of thing as a child impacts your views for forever, I definitely see spiders as 'the good guys' and so am not afraid of them except when I know they are poisonous.

Well I grew up with really dangerous ones, so moving up here where they are big tropical spiders was definitely an improvement.
