Ribh's D'Coopage

Where I live, snow falls on Mount Lofty (it's not lofty at all) once every decade or so. It falls for one night and gets to maybe 1cm (half an inch) deep before melting away. As you can imagine, it's a very exciting thing for Adelaide - people take their kids and they make tiny snowmen!
Once, just once, when my oldest was little, it snowed in Toowoomba before we left there. Enough to powder Picnic Point. I think someone tried for a snowman; more dirt than snow.:lau

Evening folks :frow

Well, everyone, I am down to 10 chooks. Namaste passed last night. Not surprising, she has not been getting worse, but not better either, but she seemed herself last night when I tucked everyone up, scoffing sardines & fighting for her share of the tucker. Sad ~ but not unexpected. No way to find out what was going on either. She'd been wormed & all the regular things checked for & apart from being a little lethargic [which I put down to her molt] & being underweight was actively out & foraging every day.

I let the girls out so I could clean the coop only my 3 worst offenders refused to stay where they belong so now everyone is penned again. The upside is I now have room for a pair of blue layers. *sigh* I hate losing birds! :(

So sorry Jeannie :hugs

@Aussie-Chookmum: This is Patricia. She's a barred rock but mutated & the other rocks ignore her. She's a VERY big girl but sweet. I'm told the barring may come in when she molts ~ but then again...:idunnoView attachment 1844068

Nugget: black australorp. I lost her recently but her sister is still plugging along. And Suyin, a favorelle X. Her sister, Luna, is a little lighter in colouring. They are the closest thing I have to a lap chicken; super friendly & docile, calm, get along with everybody, first out of the coop every morning because they can't wait to start their day. Both are brown egg layers, very large, very consistent but the favorelle's is quite dark while the Aussie's is more a yellow brown.

Patricia is beautiful Ribh.
I love lap chooks. They are so soft to pet. Alice will sometimes let me pet her ...or maybe she is just slower to run away :p

I'm so sorry to hear about Namaste. You were doing all you could for her. If only there was some easy way to tell why these things happen I think it would be some comfort:(:hugs

Yes. She was one of YD's choices. I buy the birds & YD claims them as hers!:D

Thank you. She was safe & loved always. None of us can ask for more than that.

I find my girls become much more pliable once they are laying regularly. Even my Campines have become much easier & will squat for me & let me stroke their backs. It's always the teenagers stressing out & having meltdowns.

So sorry for your loss, somewhat expected or not, it is still always hard to lose birds. :hugs

I'll make some time later to just sit with the girls. It will be good for all of us.

This is the best way to deal with hurt I find. And I’m sure the animals appreciate it too. :hugs

Yesterday, there was another really rough patch with Andrew’s family, which threw me into a full blown panic/anxiety attack. I literally sat down with the yearling cattle for about an hour, cuddling them, and it really helped.
