I love watching the chickens turn in. At my place Mary is usually last, but sometimes Ivy takes the honours. Peggy and Janet are always the first two up.A couple of nights ago I had to be out. It was terribly hot & muggy ~ too muggy I felt to lock the girls in a tin shed so I fed them & left them to put themselves to bed. I fully expected to find my Campines & bantams up trees or scattered somewhere about the yard but everyone had put themselves to bed where they should, though a bit freaked out by my not being there.
As it is hotting up this will happen more & more though Aoife stood on Sif's cage & screamed @ me for half an hour or more. The girls know the routine better than I do. Everyone else stood around & looked @ me.

Eventually there was a general move to roost;
last drinks before lock up.

There was more or less a general concensus.
Portia was absolute last but she is moulting & was eating up until the very last minute.

Mine are a bit strange about turning in. It all starts off orderly enough but then someone lingers to snack. These days it is typically Minnie who seems to be trying to make up for all the weight she lost. Then someone else who has already roosted decides that a snack isn’t such a bad idea and flies down and joins them. Then the ones remaining in the roost look like they think they must be missing out so they come down too.I love watching the chickens turn in. How is Maggie today RC?Mine are a bit strange about turning in. It all starts off orderly enough but then someone lingers to snack. And then the whole process starts again.
There can be 3-4 cycles before everyone stays put.
With Maggie going into a nest box it is a bit less chaotic right now as she stays in once she has gone to bed so it is only three playing that game.
Not so hot. Her stumbling around is more or less stable but her crop wasn’t empty again this morning and unlike Minnie who liked a good massage pre-dawn, Maggie is not a fan and I am worried about stressing her out.How is Maggie today RC?
Here Lilly and Phyllis go to bed first and Aurora tucks then all in by going to bed last.I love watching the chickens turn in. At my place Mary is usually last, but sometimes Ivy takes the honours. Peggy and Janet are always the first two up.

I am pretty sure she isn’t eating commercial feed but she forages keenly enough. It is raining today so I am going out to dig up some worms for her.
I have a sort of heavy feeling that this is the beginning of the end for her but she has pulled through before so I have a bit of hope.
