Ribh's D'Coopage

Good luck with your chicken training Ribh.

By the by, you were right about the cockatoos being destructive. If we don't rush out to feed them they will tear at the flyscreens, pick up tiles and pots and drop them and knock things off tables. I will not deal with extortionists so I shoo them and tell them to go look for healthier food and come back with a better attitude.
When they knock politely on the window they get food. 😁
Yep. My inlaws also found out the hard way. 🤣

Good evening folks :frow

I have a bunch of migratory birds visiting right now. They are thinking about going north but maybe not. They can't seem to make up their minds. Mostly sparrows and blue jays. Hundreds of sparrows. only 10 or 12 blue jays.
Wow. Blue jays are so exotic to me ~ & really pretty. I'm not sure how loud they are but I seriously doubt they could compete with parrots.

My problem girls. 🙄
The good news:
With the cage in use Sif had to roost with everyone else last night. When I went out to shut up I found she'd got 3/4 of the way there under her own steam & obviously had every intention of roosting with everyone else.

Even better I spotted her having a really good dust bath & she is hobbling round on the knuckles of her toes. Now if I can just straighten her feet out...

Have you tried wrapping her feet - sort of a soft splint to try and help her hold them straight? If she is hobbling around she might really welcome that and it will stop/delay her tendons shortening in the curled position.
Just a thought. The whole thing is very strange.

Yep it's really weird all round. I'll have a think about this. I'm a pretty crappy sort of nurse but my produce store might have some ideas.

The main thing you would need is some kind of vet wrap which is basically bandage that sticks to itself so you don’t need to mess with pins or tape. Some of it is made by 3M so probably available globally.
Then you need some padding - you could improvise with wads of scrap fabric as it doesn’t need to be sterile. If it is hard to straighten you may need something stiffer in there like some cork, or even wood. But I would start with fabric because if you go with something stiffer you will need to make sure you don’t cause it to rub against her skin and cause blisters. You might need to build your confidence before trying that.
What you are trying to do is make it difficult for her to curl her toes because there is a big wad of stuff in the way. Then you keep it in place with the vet wrap and she hobbles around in her ‘bootee splint’. Over time it could cause the toes to stay straight.
