Ribh's D'Coopage

I think it's a good idea to keep a little coop handy. Would you keep it outside or in the garage? I suppose you could even repurpose the garage as a coop if you really needed to.

Once I've got the new roost sorted out in the chicken run, the fox-proof coop will become the quarantine area/hospital/maternity ward/bike lock-up.

I've been lucky so far but in future, I'd prefer to respect quarantine recommendations.

I think it's best for me to keep both options open for expanding the flock in case future hatches don't work out. I had intended to expand by two pullets this year but that didn't work out. Now I can take a year to finish the roost and paving before trying another hatch next year, when I'll be hoping for three pullets to keep the expansion rate going. With the flock size as it is, I don't have enough eggs to give away as often as I'd like.
Yes you are right - but I need to think what the benefit is vs what I already have. I can create a pen for a run using my dog playpen panels and can do that away from the Chicken Palace.
Then I have dog crates that can be set up in the garage.
So my default quarantine approach would be dog crate in garage at night and in a dog-pen run during the day.
🤔

That works I reckon.

That is very similar to my prefab. I feel like I also paid $300 for it. That was nearly 9 years ago.
Same here. The little red coop is prefab and was roughly the same price. It is six years old, but lives in the run and is mostly protected from the elements. I hope whoever lives here next brings chickens and takes advantage of all my work.

I hope so too. You have such a cool setup. Are you going to disassemble the prefab and take it with you?
