A lot of people view chickens as disposable. Too much work to save, it's just a chicken.
This is probably true generally but my Vets is a big practice & they see lots of people whose chickens are pets. Mostly they've been really good when I've had a problem though diagnosis has been problematic ~ as with Sif. Outside of straightforward things I suspect chickens are harder to diagnose than a cat or a dog because I suspect far less is known about them. Shad's Catalan community was a wealth of knowledge handed down for generations.Probably has a lot of experience with people who wouldn't put out the effort for "just a chicken". She sure didn't show much promise when the vet saw her.
